Gap Band's Charlie Wilson Debuts at # 2 on the Billboard Album Charts
While the teenaged Swift has all of country music and mainstream outlets like VH1 behind her, "Fearless" sold 62,000, while Wilson whose only support comes from adult urban radio sold 53,000.
This is an amazing feat for the 56 year old Wilson, who recently conquered prostate cancer. At this stage of his musical career, you probably won't see on VH1’s Top 20Countdown or the youth infused 106 & Park on BET.
Nope, Wilson debuted at the #2 the old fashioned way, making good music.
His latest single "There Goes My Baby" is a sweeping R&B ballad that is classic enough thrill the old heads and current enough for young folks to give it a listen.
Though his funky Gap Band days are gone, Charlie Wilson's feat proved that you can be over 50 years old and still be musically relevant. Did you hear that “Real Hip Hop & RB stations”.

Shocker! Cleveland Browns Trade Kellen Winslow Jr (K2) to Tampa Bay!
What in the Michael Dean Perry is going on?
First defensive tackle Sean Roger requested a trade, now the Cleveland Browns traded tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks
Winslow Jr. aka K2 was not only the Cleveland Browns most talented player, but also one the team's most controversial.
From the very moment former Browns coach Butch Davis traded draft picks in the 2004 to move up one spot to select Winslow Jr. from "The U" (University of Miami), controversy followed K2.
Following tense negotiations between the Brown his former agents the Poston Brothers, Winslow Jr. broke his leg during his rookie season.
A year later, Winslow Jr.'s severely damaged his knee and shoulder, while attempting motorcycle tricks.
His injuries was so severe that some thought his career was over.
But Winslow's strong will and god given athletic ability, not only got him back on the field, but in 2007 he was named the NFL Pro Bowl.
That year proved that proved that on one good leg, Kellen Winslow Jr. was better than most receivers in the league
But by the dawn of the 2008 season, K2's career in Cleveland was coming to an end.
First, Winslow Jr. griped about a new contract.
The Browns then selected tight end Martin Rucker in fourth round of last year's NFL draft.
During the 2008 season, Winslow's injuries worsened, which not only curtailed his playing time, but Browns fans also learned Winslow contracted a staph infection.
A staph infection which led Winslow to say that he felt the Browns organization didn't care about their players (over the past few years, various Cleveland Browns suffered staph infections, although the team repeatedly that the problem was fixed, players continued to contract the bacterial infection) .
Now Kellen Winslow Jr.will be playing for the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Some would say that losing Winslow Jr.s was addition by subraction.
Maybe, maybe not.
But in losing Winslow Jr, the Cleveland Brown's not only lost their most passionate player, but also their pass catching receiver.
I guess it's safe to say that the Coach Eric Magani era has officially started.
Good luck Browns fans.

Nick Mitchell Performs "I'm Not Telling You" on American Idol
Nick Mitchell's Paul Lynde meets Jennifer Holiday version of "I'm not Telling You" (From Dream girls) was a hilarious highlight of what was a so-so American Idol.
Although it would've been nice to see Mitchell sing the song straight, the combination of his comedic flair and lack of great performances from last night's show wannabes might actually get him to the final 12 of season eight.

President Obama's State of the Economy (Union) Adress
Tuesday, February 24, 2009
President Obama, State of The Union, Green Jobs and Hirejam.com
During his address, President Obama will discuss among other things, his new stimulus package, which will lead talk about the new Green economy.
I'm a Green guy, so much so that I created a job platform called hirejam.com, along with a blog, Facebook page, Twitter and few other web 2.0 tools so that people can interact and network.
I created it because it depresses me to watch people lose their jobs, homes and even families because of the economy.
To paraphrase, President Obama " its not about me, "but about you", so if I can help any of you out there to find a job in this new green economy, then my platform has served its purpose.
Peace

Introducing...Melanie Fiona
Where are the new Gladys Knights, Whitney Houstons or Toni Braxtons? Brown skinned women, who are not part of caramel machine, but whose vocals do not need a machine to make them sound better?
I'm sure they are around, but the most record companies and managers aren't really checking for them.
In walks in Melanie Fiona. She may not sound like Gladys Knight or look like Ciara, but has something that Gladys Knight has and Ciara lacks...soul.

2009 Oscar Winners List & Hugh Jackman with Beyonce
It wasn't a bad performance, but it was big waste of time, (even though, I'm still amazed by the way Jackman can effectively sing and dance and play an intense character like "Wolverine").
People nowadays don't have the same attention span they did 20 or even 5 years ago to watch a three hour plus telecast. The British Oscars does it the right way by giving out all of their major awards within an hour.
If the Oscars here followed the same philosophy by at least cutting the show down to 90 minutes, I think more people will tune in , the ratings will go up and Hugh Jackson would still be able to squeeze out at least one or maybe two numbers.

Kaz's 2009 Academy Awards Predictions
And The Oscar goes too....
Best Actor
Sean Penn-Milk
Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) is real close, but Sean Penn reaffirmed himself as the greatest actor of his generation. Morphing from his usually brooding self to a fun loving, but passionate gay politician; Sean Penn continue to acting risks that many others are too scared to take. Great film.
Best Supporting Actor
Heath Ledger-The Dark Knight
Heath Ledger created one of the best acting jobs in the last 10 years with his last performance. If Ledger wins, this is not a sympathy award, but recognition of a mesmerizing acting performance that will stand the test of time. In reality, The Dark Knight should have also received a Best Picture and a Best Director nod for Christopher Nolan. Best film of the year.
Best Actress
Kate Winslet-The Reader
The early buzz was for Anne Hathaway (Rachel Get Married), but Winslet is overdue for her first Oscar. If she does win, who will she hug first: Her husbandSam Mendes who directed her in Revolutionary Road or co-star and best friend Leonardo DiCaprio? If Leo is in the house, I place my money on him. Sorry Sam.
Best Supporting Actress
Penelope Cruz-Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis (Doubt) or Taraji P. Heson (Benjamin Button) could upset here but Cruz was dynamic as the crazy ex-girlfriend. One of my favorite films of the year.
Best Director
Danny Boyle-Slumdog Millionaire
Boyle has been winning this award non-stop during the award season. Gus Van Zant (Milk) and Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) are also deserving, but the arresting "Slumdog" is a non brainer. Boyle should win merely for the first scene with Freida Pinto. Beautiful is too limiting of a word for Pinto in that scene.
Best Picture
Slumdog Millionaire
There was a a lot of hype about the movie and its well deserved. An Indian version of "Rocky", "Slumdog" is captivating movie that features love, crime, family, economics, loyalty, happiness. Its unfortunate that lead actor Dev Patel didn't get a nomination the nor did any of young Indian children who carried most of the movie. Did mention how hot Freida Pinto is?

Suge Knight Just Got Knocked The (Bleep) Out!
Remember in the early 90's when former Death Row CEO Suge Knight was baddest man on the planet?
He allegedly threatened Eazy E and Jerry Heller.
He allegedly held Vanilla Ice over a balcony.
Well those days are G-O-N-E.
After being knocked down last year by a barber in Cali, Knight was recently knocked down at private party at the NBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix.
Police reported that Big Suge was hit twice by man, who was rumored to be be Akon's business manager, Robert Carnes, Jr.

Are Katherine and T.R. Leaving Grey's Anatomy?
After months of rumors that Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight may be leaving Grey's Anatomy, costar James Pickens ("The Chief") has added fuel to the fire.
"Yes, she is," he told Us Weekly when asked if Heigl will exit the show. "Wherever Katherine goes, I wish her nothing but the best."
As for Knight, Pickens said, "He's going too."

Mary Mary God In Me Feat. Kierra Kiki Sheard
The attractive sister duo of Erica & Tina Atkins always made hip gospel tunes, but the songs from their latest album "The Sound" seem to have an extra hip hop kick to them and I dig it.
"God in Me", follows the same gospel meets Mary J. Blige vibe like their first single "Get Up", but this second is equally as captivating.
Some people might think these urban inspired tracks may not be considered traditional gospel music, but I feel that anyway you reach the masses without sacrificing your true beliefs is the true meaning of gospel music.

Etta James Rips Beyonce Over"At Last"
At a recent concert, Etta James who is best known for singing the classic song "At Last", blasted Beyonce for singing the song at President Barack Obama's (Inaugural) Neighborhood Ball.
"That woman he (Obama) had singing for him, James said "Singing my song, she gonna get her ass whooped"!
Easy Etta.
I don't think B did anything wrong by singing "At Last" for President Obama, but outside of Christina Aguilera, there are very few, if any artists who can sing that song better than Etta James.
But say that you want to kick Beyonce's butt for singing the song?
That's a little wacky.

Fox's 'Grindhouse Trailer for Dollhouse & ' 'Terminator'
The ad is promoting Fox's new Friday night line up, which is clearly targeting Jennifer Love Hewitt's Friday night "Ghost Whisperer" audience.
Personally, I dig the ads. The feel of the promos are reminiscent of movie trailers from 1970's drive-ins, packaging these two sci-fi inspired shows on Friday night is smart idea by FOX, plus Glau and Dushku are not bad on the eyes.

Erykah Badu And Jay Electronica's Child Born
The rapper gave updates during the child birth via his Twitter page.
During the birth, Electronica updated, writing "I see the head. Full of hair."
Upon the end of labor, he updated again, writing "Feb 1. 2009 my first child, my daughter was born at 1:30 pm exactly. Its the happiest day of my life."
Badu and Electronica's relationship, though generally low-key and out of the public eye, the couple were the subject of controversy, as fans were critical of Badu having children by several rappers [click to read]. Badu also has children with Andre 3000 and The D.O.C.
Marketing 101: Best 2009 Superbowl Ads
Overall, there were very few great commercials during this year's Superbowl.
Most of the ads seemed like they were inspired by the TV show Jackass with guys being hit or thrown out of the window, (I was expecting Johnny Knoxville to come on TV to introduce the commercials).
Other commercials were either crude (what was the deal with that Teleflora.com ad?), pointless like Pepsi's commercial featuring Saturday Night Live's MacGrubber character, (how is this unfunny show still on the air?) or sad like Ed McMahon and Hammer's commercial for Cash4gold.com, (Hammer's money problems has been well documented, but how did Ed McMahon lose money after being part of “Star Search”, “Bloopers” with Dick Clark & “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson?!? )
Luckily there were a few commercials that hit the mark:
First up is Audi's fantastic commercial "The Chase" with Jason Statham (Transporter), where he is being chased during the 70' 80's, 90's and today, followed by Miller High Life's funny one second commercial featuring the delivery guy Windell Middlebrooks simply yelling “High Life”, (which proves you don't have to spend three million dollars to sell something).
Although Budweiser are starting to overuse their successful horse campaign, (how many horse commercials did they have last night 20??), they did introduce a new wrinkle with the touching "Love Story" which featured Marvin Gaye & Tami Terrell's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough".
GoDaddy's commercial with Danica Patrick was interesting (click here for their baseball ad that was “Too hot for TV) and finally Taco Bell's "The Move", where a guy moves a little bit too fast on a woman he just met in a bar was pretty funny.
Here are a few more non-commercial observations:
The game between Arizona Cardinals and The Pittsburgh Steelers was great (sorry Cards). Faith Hill's "America's The Beautiful" was sensational, Jennifer Hudson's "Star Spangled Banner" was moving, (but not better than Marvin Gaye's) and Bruce Springsteen was proof positive that you can be near 60 years old and still be a great entertainer, (what younger artists today could rock a stage past 50 years old like Springsteen, Prince, Al Green, Tina Turner and The Rolling Stones?)
Springsteen's lively performance proved that long as you are doing something that you love and live life to the fullest, maybe you too can also still have "Glory Days" like "The Boss".
2009 Superbowl ads:
Audi "The Chase" featuring Jason Statham (Transporter)
Budweiser Love Birds (Daisy, Horses)
Miller High Life 1-Second Ad
Taco Bell Smooth Moves
Raphael Saadiq - 100 Yard Dash
After releasing solo efforts that were more miss than hit, Raphael Saadiq has reaffirmed his status as a R&B hitman.
Its a shame that Saadiq has not received the same type of love from the media than British acts Duffy and Adele who for their 60's soul inspired styled albumms.

Roger Federer Breakdown After The 2009 Australian Open
You have to feel for Federer simply because for most of this decade, he was the man to beat. Then Rafael Nadal came into the picture a few years.
At first Federer was able to handle him, but with this win, Nadal has beaten Federer three straight Grand Slam finals, which includes the French Open and Wimbledon last year.
I feel Federer is too talented not to win one or two more grand slams, but given today's epic match with the younger and faster Nadal, its hard to to tell when Federer will win again.
