Michael Jackson's "This is it" Makes $32.5 Million....New York Times says Box Office is Not Thrilling

This past week, Michael Jackson's concert rehearsal movie "This is it" made $32.5 million, ($101 million worldwide.) The New York Times headline was "This Is It" Tops The U.S. Box Office, but Not Thrilling.

Below is my response to the NY Times article:

How can anyone downplay "This is it" making $32.5 mill (over $100 mill worldwide) for its first first five days of release.

How many concert movies has made that type of money in its first week? Better yet, how many concert rehearsal movies has made that type of money? Hmm, let me think...none!

OK maybe I'm not being fair. I like Hillary Swank a lot, let's see how much did her film Amelia make this week? Ooh, just $3 million.

OK, what about "Saw IV", this past weekend it was Halloween and everybody loves Saw right ? Ouch, $5.6 million.

This is not to knock those films, but no one expected this Michael Jackson's "This is it" to be "Spiderman 3" and gross over 100 million its first weekend.

But to make over $30 million from put together concert rehearsal footage, from an artist that passed away a few months ago, these numbers look pretty good to me.
