Don't Go LBJ! Akron Starts Planning Rally To Thank LeBron James

Move over, New York.

Step aside, Chicago.

Akron isn't giving up on its favorite son.

A group of Akron civic and business leaders met for the first time Tuesday to begin plans for the LeBron Appreciation Day on June 19 at InfoCision Stadium. The event aims to thank Cavaliers star LeBron James for his contributions to Akron and the region — and make a pitch for him to remain in Cleveland.

...The goal is to pack the University of Akron's InfoCision stadium with 20,000-plus screaming fans for a free event that will include kids activities, appearances by as-yet-unnamed Cleveland sports figures and comments by local civic and business leaders. About 50,000 save-the-date passes will be handed out to encourage people to attend, though no passes will be required for admission.
