Go Get'em! Demi Lovato Blasts Critics Over Healthy Weight

When I was watching the VMA's the other night, I saw Demi Lovato pop up looking healthy and nice. But alas, there are some people who actually blasting Lovato for new shapely "thickness".

""Guess what? I'm healthy and happy, and if you're hating on my weight you obviously aren't," Lovato, wrote on Twitter.

One the pressures of Hollywood is the staying thin, but the most iconic beauties of all-time was not a stick...that would be Marilyn Monroe.

My mom use to say she liked Marilyn because "she was a white girl with a butt" (um, I concur mom).

Marilyn's healthy body shape was probably one of the inspirations of Christina Hendricks iconic role as Joan Holloway role on Mad Men, which was a coup for Hendricks who isn't a size two.

I really don't have anything against thin gals.

Kelly Ripa is rail thin but sexy and even though Kerry Washington is slimmer now than she used to be, she is still flirty, healthy  and curvy.

There's nothing wrong being size 2, just as long as if the person is happy with the image they see in the mirror.

For Demi Lovato it seems like her mirror is just fine.

R.IP. Nick Ashford! Ashford & Simpson - Found A Cure (Video)

Although most people might only know Ashford & Simpson's "Soild", they made a bunch of hits including one of my favorite songs "Found A Cure" from 1979.

Nick Ashford, of Motown Writing Duo, Dies at 70

"Nick Ashford, who with Valerie Simpson, his songwriting partner and later wife, wrote some of Motown’s biggest hits, like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough“ and “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” and later recorded their own hits and toured as a duo, died Monday at a hospital in New York City. He was 70 and lived in Manhattan.

Mr. Ashford had throat cancer and was undergoing treatment, but the cause of his death was not immediately known. His death was announced by Liz Rosenberg, a friend who is a longtime music publicist.

One of the primary songwriting and producing teams of Motown, Ashford & Simpson specialized in romantic duets of the most dramatic kind, professing the power of true love and the comforts of sweet talk. In “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” from 1967, their first of several hits for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, lovers in close harmony proclaim their determination that “no wind, no rain, no winter’s cold, can stop me, baby,” but also make cuter promises: “If you’re ever in trouble, I’ll be there on the double.”

Gaye and Terrell also sang the duo’s songs “Your Precious Love,” “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” and “You’re All I Need to Get By.” Diana Ross sang their “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand,” and when she rerecorded “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough“ in 1970, it became the former Supreme’s first No. 1 hit as a solo artist.

“They had magic, and that’s what creates those wonderful hits, that magic,” Verdine White of Earth, Wind and Fire told The Associated Press after learning of his friend’s death. “Without those songs, those artists wouldn’t have been able to go to the next level.”

Nickolas Ashford was born in Fairfield, S.C., and raised in Willow Run, Mich., where his father, Calvin, was a construction worker. He got his musical start at Willow Run Baptist Church, singing and writing songs for the gospel choir. He briefly attended Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, before heading to New York, where he tried but failed to find success as a dancer.

In 1964, while homeless, Mr. Ashford went to White Rock Baptist Church in Harlem, where he met Ms. Simpson, a 17-year-old recent high school graduate who was studying music. They began writing songs together, selling the first bunch for $64. In 1966, after Ray Charles sang “Let’s Go Get Stoned,” a song Ashford & Simpson wrote with Joey Armstead, the duo signed on with Motown as staff writers and producers.

They wrote for virtually every major act on the label, including Gladys Knight and the Pips (“Didn’t You Know You’d Have to Cry Sometime”) and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (“Who’s Gonna Take the Blame”).

While writing for Motown, Ashford & Simpson nursed a desire to perform, which Berry Gordy Jr., the founder and patriarch of the label, discouraged. They left the label in 1973 and married in 1974.

Ashford & Simpson’s initial collaborations sold poorly, but by the late ‘70s, songs like “Don’t Cost You Nothing,” “It Seems to Hang On” and “Found a Cure” became hits on the R&B charts. Their biggest hit as a solo act was “Solid,” which reached No. 12 on the pop chart and No. 1 on the R&B chart in 1984.

They also continued to write hits for other people. “I’m Every Woman“ was a hit for Chaka Khan in 1978, and later for Whitney Houston on the soundtrack to the 1992 film “The Bodyguard.” In 1996, they opened the Sugar Bar on West 72nd Street in Manhattan, where they often presided over open mic nights. Recently, they received a songwriting credit on Amy Winehouse’s song “Tears Dry on Their Own,” which contains a sample from “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

Besides his wife, Mr. Ashford is survived by two daughters, Nicole and Asia; his brothers Paul, Albert and Frank; and his mother, Alice Ashford.

Ashford & Simpson toured throughout their career, their harmony and vocal interplay illustrating the passion of their lyrics and of their life together.

“When Ms. Simpson sits down at the piano and begins to sing in a bright pop-gospel voice, unchanged since the 1970s,” Stephen Holden of The New York Times wrote in a review in 2007, “she awakens the spirit and tosses it to Mr. Ashford, whose quirkier voice, with its airy falsetto, has gained in strength from the old days. Soon they are urging each other on. By the time their romantic relay winds to a close, both are sweating profusely, and the audience is delirious.”

When Flash Mobs Goes Wrong: Rapper Machine Gun Kelly in Cleveland Mall

"Rising Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly was handcuffed and led away from SouthPark mall in Strongsville this evening amid a flash mob he organized.  Earlier in the week, Machine Gun Kelly -- whose real name is Colson Baker -- used social media to poll his fans, asking them which suburban Cleveland mall they wanted to gather at.

......About that time, someone calling himself machinegunkelly on Twitter posted: "They're kicking out (people with) costumes ... Be normal, I guess? No harm here, we just like fun!"  Not long after that, someone posted a picture of the shirtless rapper -- revealing a huge MGK tattoo across his shoulder blades -- in handcuffs on Twitter. Fans soon posted videos on YouTube showing hundreds of people -- mostly white teens and young adults -- gathered in the mall's food court watching police wrestle with the rapper and chanting "MGK" as officers led him away."

Amy Winehouse's Toxicology Reports Says....

(Via Washington Post)

"Amy Winehouse had no illegal drugs in her system when she died, and it is still unclear what killed the singer, her family said Tuesday.

The family said in a statement that toxicology tests showed “alcohol was present” in the singer’s body but it hasn’t yet been determined if it contributed to her death.

The 27-year-old soul diva, who had battled drug and alcohol addiction for years, was found dead in her London home on July 23, and an initial post-mortem failed to determine the cause of death.

A statement released by spokesman Chris Goodman on the family’s behalf said “toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy’s system at the time of her death.”

The 25-year-old broke the news he is going to be a father to Piers Morgan on his CNN Tonight show.

After dropping the bombshell Jack, who was joined by parents Sharon and Ozzy on the programme, said: 'I'm excited. I'm a little nervous."

Update 9/30: "Jack Osbourne is ready to tie the knot! The former MTV reality star popped the question to girlfriend Lisa Stelly after dating for four months.

More stable," a source told Us Weekly about the duo.  Over the summer, Jack appeared on Howard Stern's show to talk about a documentary he was making about his father, Ozzy Osbourne, and also chatted about his relationship.

Stelly took to her Twitter account on Thursday night to share the good news: "The most amazing man I've ever met asked me to marry him....and he wasn't joking! Crazy, right?"

While 24-year-old aspiring actress Stelly's résumé is still light, Osbourne has maintained a presence in Hollywood since he appeared with his family on the hit MTV series "The Osbournes." The reality show had an impressive three-year run before ending in 2005. Jack later starred in his own U.K. reality show, "Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie," for two seasons." (Via MTV)

Rolling Stone Names Eminem King of Hip Hop

(Via Rolling Stone)

"ALBUM SALES

Were we saying something about a close contest? Not on the album tally, where comeback king Eminem takes the top slot by an absurd margin. Thanks to his two latest chart-topping albums, 2009's Relapse and 2010's Recovery, the man otherwise known as Slim Shady sold more than two and a half times the number of albums as the second-ranked Lil Wayne during our survey period."

Campaign! Bring BBC Radio 1Xtra Back to Sirius XM

So last night I jumped in my car and turned on my Sirius XM Radio to listen to Tim Westwood's show on BBC 1Xtra and the channel was replaced by a disco channel.

Now look, I love disco and I feel there is a place for disco, but just like when Sirius Xm tried to get rid of the old school Hip Hop "Backspin", they are once again, making dumb programming mistakes.

Today I launched a Facebook page and an online petition to bring Radio 1 Xtra back.

I could go, but I want to hear from you. How do you feel about Sirius XM getting rid of BBC Radio 1 Xtra? Do you have anymore ideas on how we can get the channel back?

Let me know!

'Glee' Adds 'Friday Night Lights and 'Hawthorne' Actors for Season Season 3

(Via Pop Crunch)

" Within 24 hours, the musical juggernaut that is “Glee” added two new cast members to its ranks.

Mercedes — who, I don’t care what anyone says, is the best singer in New Directions — finally gets a boyfriend who isn’t gay or written off the show moments after we see them holding hands. He’ll be “Friday Night Lights” star LaMarcus Tinker, who joins the McKinley High football team as a linebacker appropriately named … Marcus.

Brad Falchuk, a writer on “Glee,” recently told reporters at a Comic-Con event that Marcus and Mercedes will be like “Cuba Gooding Jr. and his wife in ‘Jerry Maguire.’ He’s this Big Bubba kind of guy and he encourages her to want more for herself. That drives her arc into the next half of the season.”

Sounds like his heart-of-gold character won’t be too far removed from real-life — back in 2010, he told The Houston Chronicle about his active partnership with the local Boys and Girls clubs.

“You have to help people who are younger than you, and then they’ll lend a hand to someone else. After you die, it’ll still be going on. That’s my hope, because if the rest of this ended today, I’d still say I’ve enjoyed my life. My dreams already came true.”

Aww. So at least we know our little soul sister isn’t getting stuck with a cad. Like she’d put up with that sort of nonsense anyway.

Also enrolling at McKinley this fall will be “American Dreams” alum Vanessa Lengies as a spoiled princessy-type named Sugar (if that’s not a nickname, expect to see her on the pole in future seasons).

She’s described as “a cross between Molly Shannon and a New Jersey Housewife,” whatever that means. We also know she’ll be tone-deaf, but her stint on “American Dreams” certainly proved she can dance — so maybe she’ll be New Directions’ female answer to the non-singing but wicked-dancing Mike Chang. Time will tell.

In the meantime, check her out on the Jada Pinkett-Smith show “HawthoRNe,” where she plays Nurse Kelly Epson.

“Glee” will be back on September 20, for those of you who care (and I do — shut up)."

Lopez Tonight Canceled!

(Via NJ.com)

George Lopez's nightly gabfest "Lopez Tonight" has been canceled by TBS after two years, effectively almost immediately. His Thursday night last show will be his last, the Associated Press reports. Lopez, whose eponymous sitcom ran for five years, was one of the few people of color to helm a nighttime talker.

According to TMZ.com, this reflects badly on Conan O'Brien as well. Lopez was apparently doing better in the ratings when he had the 11 p.m. slot, which can be expected. But when O'Brien got the 11 p.m. slot and moved Lopez back to midnight, ratings fell by 40 percent, despite O'Brien's lead-in, expected to be strong.

"Conan" viewership was just 13 percent more than the first year of "Lopez Tonight," a media analyst tells the AP. O'Brien, of course, left the "Tonight Show" after Jay Leno's 10 p.m. talk show proved a ratings disappointment and he wanted to return to his old time slot.
