Music is My Soul's Top 16 Best TV Shows of 2011

1. Friday Night Lights (NBC)

I started the watching the show in 2010 when critics said the show fell off; I couldn't tell. Maybe the show was stronger in its early years, but the realism of FNL makes you feel like you are watching a documentary, not a well written program on NBC.

2. Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO)

Like with FNL, I came during last season's "Seinfeld" year; I glad I tuned in. Who knows if this is the last season of Larry David's show, but the combo of a single Larry and the move to New York, gave the show a new energy that I would like to see continue.

3. The Walking Dead (AMC)

Otis!!!!!!! That came changing episode, along with the final scene of their truncated second season, makes the Walking Dead must see TV, (the show returns February 12, 2012).

4. How To Make it in America (HBO)

HBO canceled it and I'm not sure why. The "Entourage" type expectations of the show was too big for a show, which is good on its on "Crisp." Is there a Jeremy Piven on the show? No. But the ensemble cast is good enough to have you coming back for more. Speaking of more, "Hey HBO, develop a show around Gina Gershon!"

5. Game of Thrones (HBO)

Peter Dinklage rules adn they also killed off their lead character! Even Boardwalk Empire's Nucky Thompson wouldn't have done that! The Tudors might be gone from Showtime, but HBO has found a worthy successor for the throne.

5. Luther (BBC America)
I hate that this show is only a mini series, the only downside of this season was that there wasn't enough  playtime between Luther (Idris Elba) and Alice (Ruth Wilson).  This show is "Kojak" for a new century and Idris Elba should be given a chance to delve more into this character on longer running version on Showtime or AMC.

6. Beavis and Butthead (MTV)

Prior to this year, Mike Judge didn't create a Beavis and Butthead cartoon since the 1990's; I couldn't tell.  Since I am older and much mature, I figured these two warped characters would only make me  chuckle...um WRONG! The show is still laugh out loud funny.  Although Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and South Park's Trey Parker and Matt Stone receives more pub these days, Mike Judge is the Godfather of both of them...as well as Bart Simpson.

7. Justified (FX)

One of misnomers of the drug trade is that its only a city thing, Justified shows that crime is just as twisted and dangerous in the sticks than they are in the hood.

8.  True Blood (HBO)

An aamnesiac vampire name Eric and witch named Marnie shook things up this year. Although True Blood isn't the water cooler show it once was, it is still must see summer viewing.

9.  Breaking Bad (AMC)

Two word: "Giancarlo Esposito." Two more words: "Gus Fring." Two more words "Two-Face"

10. American Horror Story (FX)

Horror, a rubber suit and sex. This sounds like my future honeymoon, but in fact it was part of the AHS landscape this season.  I felt cheated by the ending because Harmon's storyline is over and Jessica Lange's character Constance (who should nominated for an Emmy). We'll see what happens with next year's new chapter of AHS, but thanks to creators Ryan Murphy/Brad Falchuk, I will never look at latex the same way ever again.

11. Community (NBC)

Although 30 Rock receives most of the comedy support from NBC, Community is just as funny and at times funnier than Tina Fey's Emmy winning sitcom. Besides, my college classmate Yvette Brown plays Shirley on the show, their pop culture TV mash-ups are hilarious and Alison Brie is Kryptonite to The Roots' Questlove, (for which I agree).  What's not to like NBC, so put it back on the schedule!

12. Louie (FX)

If Curb Your Enthusiasm is over, Louie is a capable replacement. The fact that he is able to get away with this stuff on FX is amazing!

13. Treme (HBO)

Dear Emmy voters, what is it going to take for you nominate Khandi Alexander?!?

14. Revenge (ABC)

1980's  Dynasty + 1990's Melrose Place +  iPads = Revenge

15. Dan Le Batard  is Highly Questionable (ESPN)

What started out as a highly edit sports show is now a tale of two programs. one with Dan's funny relationship with his dad "Papi" (who is also is co-host) and most importantly and Le Batard's stellar interview segments which puts most sports and news programs to shame.

16. Jersey Shore  (MTV)

I wish I could blame blame being bit by a vamp or a zombie made me watch this show, but once you sit through marathon with Snookie and The Situation, it's about the same.

What's Your New Year's Resolution for your Favorite TV Show or Artist?

The new year is fast approaching, if you were control of entertainment, what would your New Year's Resolution be for an artist, actor, actress, TV show, etc.

For me, I  Ryan Murphy said there will be a new cast for season two of American Horror Story, but since fans invested so much into the Harmon family, why not  pull a *Bobby Ewing and pretend the last two episodes didn't happen.

The season two would be rebooted the show right before Connie Britton's character Vivien Harmon  into labor, Dylan McDermott's character Ben would still be alive (although the Harmon's daughter would still be dead) , you could  incorporate Morris Chesnut back in the fold and Jessica Lange can still be conniving, all would be forgiven Ryan.

(Also to HBO , un-cancel "How To Make it America and Hung  and turn the shows into web series on HBO. That way you still keep the fans of those show and you will lessen the cost.)

Finally to all rappers like Gucci Mane, no more face tattoos.

Just like I wore Dwayne Wayne glasses as a kid to act like I was cool, some young adults are actually following your lead and tatting their faces.

For millionaire like Lil Wayne who wants to screw up his face by tatting it all up that'sOK, but if you got a Elmo tat on your chin of or Drake across your forehead, something tells me you won't be elected President of The United States anytime soon.
What's Your Entertainment New Year's Resolution?

(*Bobby Ewing was a character on Dallas played by Patrick Duffy.

Duffy wanted to leave the show and they killed him off by being hit by a car. He decided to come back a year later, so as a cliff hanger the following seson they had him in the shower...Dallas told the viewers that the whole season was  a dream and he was really alive.

Crazy right? But the fans, including me,  bought it (but I had excuse I was in Jr. High School!!)

From Wiz to Foo! Music is My Soul's Top 42 Songs of 2011

1. Adele-Rolling in The Deep

Adele - Rolling in the Deep HD by alexandru2006

MTV recently debating if Nikki Minaj or Adele was the top artist of 2011.

The argument was that Minaj should be on top because she was a 360 artist who fits today's music industry where marketing is just as or even more important than the music.

Nikki Minaj is a wonderful talent who helped bring back female MC's in a big way and she will be around for long time, mainly because she is really talented MC who is a very smart business woman.

However, when Adele released her album "21" it wasn't about marketing or making tracks that would give her broad appeal, "21" was about her life, openly singing about a relationship gone bad, (once upon this was staple of music, which has slowly drifted away like the Sony Walkman).

But how can one hear the emotion that comes out of Adele mouth and not feel something?

How can one not get into the hand clamps during the climax of "Rolling in the Deep" and not clap along?

Is Adele the greatest singer of all time? No.

But she is a true artist who pulls you in with her  music, not her dance steps....and music lovers around the world and the music industry as the whole is better off with her authenticity than without it.

Anderson Cooper Remembers Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens Interviewed By Charlie Rose

(Via TIME)Christopher Hitchens, the brilliant, pugilistic essayist and journalist, died Thursday of cancer at age 62. This is not a personal remembrance of Hitchens; I didn’t know him. It’s too bad, because from all accounts knowing “Hitch” was a bracing experience, involving arguments and legendary drinking bouts that Hitchens, inevitably, would win. (There will be plenty of personal accounts of Hitchens from his writer friends; you might start with this Christopher Buckley’s appreciation in the New Yorker online, which addresses both the arguing and the drinking.)

Miami Heat Debut New Darker, Alternate Jerseys

" The Miami Heat have unveiled new, alternate, road jerseys for use in about a dozen games per season. As you can see from the picture above, the jerseys are decked out entirely in the color black, with a wee bit of white trim. To these eyes, the jerseys are pretty cool. You can never dress in black and look uncool, but the alternate uniforms do seem to fly in the face of LeBron James' month-long hope for he and his Heat cohorts to stave off looking like the NBA's villains as they attempted to win their first ring together."  (Yahoo Sports)

Questlove Talks Love for Alison Brie; Told Jay-Z To Go to Harvard in Rolling Stone

(Via Rolling Stone)

".....After a DJ set on a recent night in LA, he heads up to Hollywood to meet his friend Sasha Grey, the porn-star-turned-Entourage regular......They're standing on the sidewalk being snapped by paparazzi and deciding where to get food when Thompson gets a text from Community star Donald Glover: Did I just drive past you? He says he's on his way to a party and that everyone should come. But Thompson doesn't know if he's up for it; the party is at actress Alison Brie's house, and Thompson has a major crush on her. "That girl is my Kryptonite," he says. "She's gonna have me talking like Back to the Future: 'I'm your density.'" She's been on Fallon before, but he was too nervous to talk to her."

MTV News: "Pharrell Williams To Oversee Music Selection At The Oscars"

(Via MTV)

"Last year Pharrell had the chance to work with Hans Zimmer when he created the score for Universal's animated 3-D film, 'Despicable Me,' and now Williams will team up with the famed German composer once again, when he serves as a musical consultant for the upcoming 84th Academy Awards telecast.

....Zimmer has composed music for more than 100 movies, including "Gladiator," "Pearl Harbor," the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, Christopher Nolan's "Batman" movies, "Kung Fu Panda 2," "Rango" and "The Lion King," for which he won an Oscar. Williams has written songs for a number of movies, including "Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Despicable Me."

....The two music men join a telecast that has already garnered its share of attention due to the departure of original newbie producer Brett Ratner
last month after the "Tower Heist" director was criticized for using a gay slur at a movie screening and speaking in frank terms about his sexual proclivities on Howard Stern's satellite radio show. Ratner was quickly followed by his hand-picked show host, comedian comedian Eddie Murphy, who was swiftly replaced by Oscar veteran Billy Crystal."
