CBS News AnchorJennifer Livingston Responds to Viewer for Criticizing Her Weight
I often wonder what TV news producers are thinking when they constantly trot out anchors who like they just came from Miss Universe.
I'm sure it's about ratings, but men like women in all shapes and sizes and women usually like women that they have something in common with; Yet it seems like more and more female anchors are hired with the same waist size as they do talent "0, (okay that's a bit harsh, let's kick it up to "2").
That's why it was so refreshing to see WKBT anchor Jennifer Livingston address the viewer who criticized her for her weight.
While its true that new organizations has always hired beauty queen-like talent, the difference was most of them were highly skilled (Hello Diane Sawyer) and they were working along with equally talented women with various looks, shapes and sizes (Hello Candy Crowley).
It seems like ever since Fox News began and terms like "Money Honey" popped up on CNBC during the last decade, looks and top model like bodies seems to be the benchmark for news employment.
This is not say that everyone today who is attractive is not talented, but just watch when a "Breaking News" story happens and see who rises to the occasion and those who fold because they have to improvise the news without the use of a teleprompter (this goes for the guys too....David Brinkley where are you?)
Will Jennifer Livingston's eloquent rebuttal change the tide of size "2" beauty queen anchors and reporters?
Probably not...but hopefully her reply will not only make young girls of various shapes and sizes appreciate their bodies as well as make TV news producers think twice before turning away a female anchor or reporter because of her body shape, looks or color.
