Lopez Tonight Canceled!

(Via NJ.com)

George Lopez's nightly gabfest "Lopez Tonight" has been canceled by TBS after two years, effectively almost immediately. His Thursday night last show will be his last, the Associated Press reports. Lopez, whose eponymous sitcom ran for five years, was one of the few people of color to helm a nighttime talker.

According to TMZ.com, this reflects badly on Conan O'Brien as well. Lopez was apparently doing better in the ratings when he had the 11 p.m. slot, which can be expected. But when O'Brien got the 11 p.m. slot and moved Lopez back to midnight, ratings fell by 40 percent, despite O'Brien's lead-in, expected to be strong.

"Conan" viewership was just 13 percent more than the first year of "Lopez Tonight," a media analyst tells the AP. O'Brien, of course, left the "Tonight Show" after Jay Leno's 10 p.m. talk show proved a ratings disappointment and he wanted to return to his old time slot.
