Kanye West: Onc Mic. One Skirt/Kilt. One Killer Performance

Kanye West is crazy like a fox!

After appearing Wednesday night at the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, blogs and Twitter were abuzz about him performing in a skirt, (personally I think it was a leather kilt, but fine.)

In a crowd of aging, but still talented rockers like The Who, Bill Joel and Bruce Springsteen who delivered mighty-mighty strong performances, it was once again Kanye who stole the spotlight.

The interesting thing about Kayne's performance was that most of the people on Twitter had no idea how great his performance really was; Unwitingly to the mostly rock heavy crowd, they were actually experiencing a  true old school hip hop performace: One rapper. One Mic. One Dj

There was not a hype man to rap along. There was no Rihaana to pacify the crowd.

Nope, Kaye tore through hit after hit like “Clique” , Mercy “Power” “Jesus Walks,” “All of the Lights,” “Touch the Sky.” “Gold Digger,” "Good Life," “Runaway.”, sweating through his hoodie with his kilt/skirt in tow.

(The kilt thing is actually funny because Kanye wore it througout  the Watch The Throne tour with Jay-Z. Also kilts and performances are not new as Axel Rose's  kilt wearing performances with  Guns N Roses  20 years ago, were just as iconic and controvesial as Kanye's was at Sandy Relief.

Interestingly, some people on Twitter actually called Kanye's performance "embarrassing" for Hip Hop.

Hmmm, I think Nicki Minaj fighting with Mariah Carey on American Idol was embarrassing for Hip Hop, but I can think of the few things that were more embrassing at last night's concert:

1.) The drunken guy who hugged Steve Buscemio so hard, Nucky actually said ow!

2.)  The Who's Roger Daltrey opened shirt.  #MyEyes

3.) The lack of musical diversity on the bill, which did not include any Latin or Jazz music, which embedded in New York musial culture.

4.)  Alicia Keys was the only female on the bill and she did not appear until 2.5 hours in on the six hour show.

5.) The Rolling Stone for all their greatness, performed a short set, for which  Steve Buscemi took a jab before he was felt up by the drunk dude.

6.) The lack of diversity in the audience, which reflects poorly on the rich diversity of the New York/New Jersey area. This also tells me that there was...

7.) A lack of divestity of high ranking executives who gave out free tickets as well as very little diversity when it came to the behind the scenes organizers for the event that even Mick Jagger quipped "“This has got to be the largest collection of old English musicians ever."

I can go on, but the fact remains that the 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief was great fundraiser for the New York/New Jersey as it  raised  over $36 million for victims  of the tri-state area, (even though some Sandy victims outside New York may not receive needed funds)

Overall, The 12-12-12 concert will be remembered for a great night for classic rock fan but at the end of the day, it was  one rapper with one  mic, one DJ and one kilt/skirt who really stole the show.
