Tragic! Lousiville's Kevin Ware’s Breaks Leg Against During Elite 8 (Video)

(Via L.A. Times)

"Louisville guard Kevin Ware has a broken right leg after landing awkwardly when he tried to block a shot by Duke guard Tyler Thornton.

Replays showed that Ware's lower right leg appears to snap as he lands from a lengthy leap to contest the shot. A video of the play is attached below (warning, images are graphic).

The injury occurred with 6:33 left in the first half. Thornton's shot was good, cutting Louisville's lead to 21-20 at the time. Louisville was leading at the half, 35-32.

The game was delayed almost 10 minutes as trainers wrapped Ware's lower right leg, put him on a backboard and lifted him onto a stretcher to be taken off the court."

(The gif below is very graphic)

Ouch! When Doug Gottlieb 'The White Man's Perspective" Joke Goes Wrong (Video)

Sooooooo, Doug Gottlieb joined Charles Barkley, Greg Gumble, Kenny Smith and Greg Anthony to do some March Madness analysis and he figured, since I'm the only white dude here, let me show the guys I'm part of the crew by saying something funny.

Now the joke wasn't horrible or racist, the delivery was bad and  it just fell flat.

This  unlike TNT's Ernie Johnson who knows how to deliver, "I'm the only white guy on" Inside The NBA"" with deadpan  humor that doesn't go too far.

Gottlieb had yet to  gain that trust from the CBS/TBS crew to deliver that joke effectively.

The next day, Doug Gottlieb later  tried to apologize on Dan Patrick's radio show.

While  Gottlieb should have said, "Dan, I thought it would be funny and I screwed it up. This proves I'm no comedian and certainly won't do a race joke again"...he basically threw Charles and Kenny under the bus by saying the joke didn't work because they didn't practice with him.

While I don't think Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith shouldn't be doing March Madness analysis anyway because they are NBA guys, not men's college basketball guys , Charles and Kenny don't rehearse because that's what make Inside The NBA great.

They fly by the seat of their pants, plus their show is on 1AM in the morning, (not prime-time).

Are their jokes always funny?

No, but there's a trust and chemistry between Charles and Kenny that works for them, so rehearsing is hardly needed.

By blaming them for his poor delivery,  Doug Gottlieb only makes himself look worse.

I get where Doug going with his joke and his friends might have  told  him it was hilarious, but to be honest, Doug, like most guys are not that funny.

The only people who should really be apologizing is Gottlieb's friends to him for making him believe that the "Cream to the crop"...err, "Cream to the top" joke was funny.

This is true esssence of Dave Chappelle's "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong"

Sad! Norman Reedus Talks About The Heartbreaking Fight Between Daryl and Merle Dixon

(Via Entertainment Weekly)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tell me your reaction when you first read the episode or heard what was going down?
NORMAN REEDUS: I was bummed to see Rooker go. He’s such a strong character and such a good actor. He brought so much to the show so I was bummed to see him leave. I would have liked to have explored that relationship a bit more. And he’s always fun to play scenes with so I was bummed about that. I’m bummed every time someone leaves the show, to be honest.

EW: You just keep stabbing him in the head over and over at the end. Daryl seems to releasing all this anger at that moment. Is that pent-up anger at his brother? Is it anger at his death? Or maybe a bit of both?
REEDUS: It’s more like anger at this world right now. Rage is one of those things that is fear based.  That sort of rage comes from being afraid. Daryl is the type of guy that’s always had his back up against the wall. He’s always had to fight. It’s just at the world and this is my life, and these are the cards I was dealt and it’s just frustration and anger at everything. It’s not just Merle. I’m not like, ” I hate you Merle!”  It’s more like “Life sucks! And I hate it! I hate it! I hate it!” It’s more like that.

Old School Fresh! Jaden Smith – Hello (Video)

Will and Jada's son has crafted a video and rhyme style that reminiscent of the early 90's era of Native Tongue's era, while his dad was cashing check's as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire!

Pretty cool.

Kordell Stewart Files For Divorce From RHOA Wife Porsha

A couple of weeks ago, I was listening to Tariq Nasheed's Mack Lessons podcast and he was talking about how some of of he Real Housewives of Atlanta would criticize Porsha Stewart for being more of wife to her husband  Kordell Stewart than acting like a reality star diva.

I guess the constant  belittling wore her down.

Today, Kordell Stewart, the former Pittsburgh Steeler QB and now a radio sports talk show co-host with Atlanta's WZGC 92.9 The Game, fiiled for divorce saying " the marriage is 'irretrievably broken' and that they separated, according to TMZ".

If there  is one thing I do know about reality TV, it is  if you have a stable marriage, either stay away it or make sure the show is clearly centered around you; and even then, if you sense problems happening in your family, get it out before its too late, (The Osbourne's with all their problems are still intact as a family, while Hulk Hogan's brood literally blew up on TV) .

Unfortunately for Kordell and Porsha, they  jumped into the reality pool where there are very few strong marriages and worse yet, strong husbands who actually a voice (how's it going there in  Kardashian world Bruce Jenner?)

From the RHOA point of view, Kordell  was overbearing and didn't let his wife run everything like most of the ROHA husbands.

However, from a real life point of view, marriages is always give and take in a relationship. However,  maybe the Stewarts were a bad fit in the first place, where Kordell seems like a traditional, old-school  marriage guy and Porscha wanted to have it all. Only time will tell, if divorcing was the right idea.

Too bad they couldn't have worked all of this stuff out before that first camera from Bravo shined that red light on them in their Atlanta home and the director said ACTION!

That's Gangsta! Jesse James Marries Billionaire Heiress Alexis DeJoria

Being a gangsta is not popping bottles in club, putting more tattoos on your  face like Cash Money's Birdman or wanting a big booty girl for your birthday like 2 Chainz.

Being gangsta is somehow getting married to Sandra Bullock, when she wasn't even considering getting married before they met.

Then after she wins the Oscar for "The Blide Side" and professees her love for Jesse James at the Academy Awards, Sandra and  everyone else finds out that he cheated on "America's Sweetheart" with numerous times, which is followed by women  officially considering him scum.

This is followed by, people finding out that he has a bunch of Nazi gear in your home, which might deems him as a  racist.

However, James rebounds by  dating reality tattoo star Kat Von D on the rebound. Getting engaged,  dumping her twice; and finally he ends up marrying Alexis DeJoria, the billionaire heiress to the Paul Mitchell fortune with no word of a pre-nup sight!

That's real gangsta!

Jesse James is probably not a good guy and this marriage might crash and burn like the last one, but I will give him credit, he is one heck of an opportunist,..err I mean businessman.

James is in a far better position now financially than he was with Sandra Bullock and Kat Von D combined!

This goes to show that I still don't understand the choices women makes in relationships, especially know if they the guy has a lot of issues ...(but guys do the same thing too, but for them its usually about the physical).

I have my own thoughts, but how do think Jesse James is able to pull all of these succcessful women without  scratch on him?

James Franco Talks Spiderman, Anne Hathaway, Milk and Sping Breakers on Howard Stern

In a wide ranging interview, James Franco talks about his whole career from "Freaks and Geeks" to Spiderman (he lost the role of Peter Parker to Toby Maguire) hosting to actors Oscars to playing Alien in "Spring Breakers" (Franco didn't talk about General Hospital, but I don't think Stern is a soap fan). He even talked about going back to and now teaching film in college.

Overall, Jame Franco is an overall great Howard Stern guest because he follwed the "Bradley Cooper model" of discussing anything and everything, while not getting himself in trouble...but be warned, the "Oz The Great" actor is a bit long winded, so it takes awhile for Franco at times to make his point.

For acting geeks, However, Stern's interview with the Spring Breakers star (which is says is his role of "Alien" is his favorite)  is great study of an actor like Johnny Depp, whom has become successful on his own terms and still continues to do so.

Jay-Z Tops Time Out's New York’s 50 Greatest NYC Hip-Hop Artists

The New York based mag Time Out came out with an interesting list this week of  "New York’s 50 Greatest NYC Hip-Hop Artists."

The list was an interesting collection of hood favorites ((#34 Pete Rock & C.L.Smooth,  #24 Dipolmats )  female MC's  (#40 Lil Kim , #35 Nicki Minaj) , underground artists (#50 Das Racist #45 Jean Grae, #30 Kool Keith) , surprising placements  (#49 Slick Rick #4, Sean Combs #7)  and heavyweights (#20 Mos Def, #8 A Tribe Called Quest).

But in the end, Brooklyn's Jay-Z was Time Out's "Greatest NYC MC", (KRS-One and Rakim finished #15 and #16 respectively).

Jay-Z finishing at #1 is deserved, but also quite interesting.

Around the time of the "Black Album" when Jay-Z was at his creative peak, Hov didn't feel he was getting much love from Hip Hop critics as being the #1 MC in the game.

However like past presidents who gain more respect as the years passed by, Jay-Z has been pushed towards the top of most MC lists, mostly due to fact that Mr.Carter continues to make interesting music but his only chief rival during this era, Detroit's Eminem has made less material over the same span of time.

Coming right behind Jay-Z is his childhood  Brooklyn counterpart, the slain Notorious B.I.G. at #2.

Although saying "What if" is fruitless most times, it would have been interesting if Jay-Z would have risen to # 1 status, if his lyrical gifted Brooklyn neighbor would have lived passed 1997.

Below areNew York MC's who made the Top 5

5.) Beastie Boys
4.) Wu-Tang Clan 3.) Public Enemy 2.) Notorious B.I.G. 1.) Jay-Z   Who (m) would you rank in your Top 5?

Why Does The Bible's Satan Look Like President Obama?

Now I'm just a small town blogger from Ohio, but Satan in the History Channel's miniseries "The Bible" does look like President Barack Obama, (dude even has the ears to match!)

Coincidence?  Maybe, maybe not but I'm sure the spin machine from Mark Burenett's production company will be spinning something soon (Burnett co-created the miniseries with his wife, "Touch By an Angel's Roma Downey)

Personally, I liked Robert DeNiro's version of the devil better in Lisa Bonet's "Angel Heart" back in the day, but that's just me.

Justin Timberlake Performs Greatest Hits Medley On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

The last night of Timber-week (as Jimmy Fallon called it) as Justin Timberlake dipped into the past for his last appearance.

Boucing between his prior solo efforts"Justified and "Future Sexy Love/Sounds", Timberlake bought back Neptunes produced favorites “Like I Love You”and Senorita" and his main producing partner Timbaland's   “My Love” and to “Cry Me a River,”(with a  line from Juicy J‘s “Bandz a Make Her Dance”mixed in) to the delight of the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" audience.

As I listened to the Neptunes songs from "Justified", I started thinking why Timberlake  never worked with The Neptune's Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams again.

The only thing I can figure is that The Neptunes are a self contained production  unit, where they expertly know how to craft rich melodies and hard beats; because of this, Chad and Pharrell probably enjoyed working with Timberlake, but probably didn't need much help from him.

Timbaland on the other hand, much like Dr. Dre needs a musical foil like Missy Elliot to add melodies to his futuristic beats. For Timberlake, the ability to fill the melody void with Timbaland was probably a better fit for him than working with Chad and Pharrell....but those Neptunes tracks on "Justified" are still pretty darn good 11 years later.

Old or new, Justin Timberlake's buzz worthy performances on Jimmy Fallon this week, along with  his Target special on the CW  on March 19th is not only great primer for the release for his  "20/20 Experience" album  (which also will be releasedon the 19th) but also his stadium tour with Jay-Z later this year.

Justin Timberlake Performs " Let the Groove Get In" on Jimmy Fallon"

Every artist who has a catalog of songs has that one song that ends their show.

You know, that "Baby I'm a Star" moment in Purple Rain that makes the crowd feel good when they go home (even though Prince didn't like the movie's ending).

For the Rolling Stones it is "Satisfaction".

For Janet Jackson its "Together Again".

For Justin Timberlake that song might be "Let the Groove Get In."

Sounding like a song the Neptunes could have produced for Timeberlake's first solo effort "Justified", the partying "Groove" is one part Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Starting Something", another part Lionel Richie's "All Night Long".

"Groove" is basically a feel good, high energy song that should seem out of place in this EDM era of music, but inactuality  it might be the shot in the arm that needs to bring more musicality and instruments back to pop radio.

Sad: Driver in Warren Teen Crash Had No License

(Via Miami Herald)

" The 19-year-old woman behind the wheel of an allegedly stolen SUV when it smacked a guardrail and flipped into a pond, killing six friends, didn't have a valid driver's license, according to a report on the crash released Tuesday.

Two teens who survived the crash told police the woman was speeding and driving recklessly before Sunday's accident. The State Highway Patrol report said one of the teens told investigators the driver, Alexis Cayson, sped up as she rounded what's known as "Dead Man's Curve."

The other teen told a state trooper it felt like the SUV was going 80 mph. Cayson was among those killed along with five boys. Brian Henry, 18, said he told the woman to slow down before the five-passenger Honda Passport, crammed with eight teenagers, sped down a 35-mph road and into the water early Sunday.

"I blanked out for a little bit and then the truck was upside-down in the water," he told a trooper. "There was air in the truck but it was filling with water. I used my right elbow to break out the back window."

Henry wriggled out of the submerged vehicle with 15-year-old Asher Lewis. The pair, who suffered only minor injuries, ran to a home to call 911.

In a call to 911 released Tuesday, Jacquelyn Kimble said that the two survivors were "beat up pretty bad." "Can you send an ambulance?" she asks.

"Two of my friends got into an accident around Pine Street and they just came over here. They are messed up pretty bad. Can you please send somebody quick?" Asked if it was a car accident, she replied yes.

"One's head's bleeding, they beat up pretty bad," she said, then stops to tell someone near her, "Just sit right there, just sit right there." Her husband, Jeremy Kimble, told police that Henry was "covered with blood' and that Lewis had mud all over.

"They said the girl was swerving, driving crazy, lost control and flipped," Kimble told police.

Authorities have cautioned against speculation about what happened and say they're trying to gather facts as family and friends in this struggling northeastern Ohio industrial city try to fit the pieces of the tragedy together.

All eight passengers came from the close-knit black community in this small, mostly working-class city of 41,000, so the deaths punched a hole in a part of Warren where everyone seems related by blood or marriage, and the rebellious rituals of youth have played out across generations.

The car was reported stolen on Monday, more than a day after the crash. It wasn't clear if the passengers knew the car was stolen."

Tragic! "Six -Month-old Chicago Girl Dies After Being Shot Five Times"

Chicago News and Weather | FOX 32 News

  (Via Fox News 32)

" A 6-month-old Chicago girl who was shot five times while her father was changing her diaper died of her wounds Tuesday, authorities said.

Jonylah Watkins died at Comer Children's Hospital, where she underwent surgery following Monday afternoon's attack, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. Her father, Jonathan Watkins, was also wounded and remained in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

...Witnesses said the gunman approached Jonathan Watkins at around 1 p.m. and opened fire on him while he was standing beside his minivan and changing his daughter's diaper. She was on the front seat.

Jonathan Watkins was shot in the side and buttocks, and suffered a graze wound to his face. Jonylah was shot five times, in the thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels, the family said.

It wasn't the family's first brush with Chicago's gun violence. The girl's mother, Judy Watkins, was shot in the knee while she was pregnant with Jonylah, according to the woman's mother, Mary Young."

Podcast: The Digital Life with Kevin Lockett #1 : TV 20's Leah Haslage

Lockett Media takes a another bold step in its growing multi-media empire (OK its an empire with a small "e", but you get it) by launching the "The Digital Life with Kevin Lockett" podcast.

Basically the podcast is everything that I like: pop culture, digital media and talking to interesting people.

For episode #1, TV20 Cleveland's Leah Haslage is first up to bat.

Now if you are a reader of "Music is My Soul" blog, you recognized Leah's name from" Top 140 for a Valentine's Day Mixtape" and other posts.

When it comes to pop culture and inspiring me to take my  blogging thing to  a higher level, Leah is one of the best around. So I figured it was fitting that she would be my first guest (I'm still going to lock you down one day for an interview Kerry Washington).

Currently, Leah is part of the City of Cleveland's television station, TV 20 where she handles social media and  hosts the music and fashion program "Listen Up" as well  their "90 Day Weight Loss Challenge."

Throughout the interview, Leah and I  talked about a variety of things from how Murphy Brown and Oprah Winfrey influenced her media path, her feelings if Lebron James came back to the Cavs as well as me still  trying to wrap my head around her belated Christmas present to me which is an impersonation of the rapper Drake (it's long story).

In any event, the first "Digital Life of Kevin Lockett" podcast is off to great start and I hope all you stay along for the ride for future episodes.

If you have any interview ideas or people in the pop culture and/or social media world I should try to contact leave me a comment or hit me up on Twitter @KevinLockett, lockettmedia@gmail.com or Kevinlockett.com

So now  as Bane would say, "Let The Games begin"!

Top Five Moments from Justin Timberlake's SNL 2013 Show

For the fifth time (wow he got to five appearances past), Justin Timberlake hosted Saturday Night Live. For most of the year, Bruno Mars held the lead as the season's top SNL host, but Mr. "Suit and Tie" quickly grabbed his 2013 hosting crown back with a bunch of action packed, funny sketches which made the night's episode the highest rated in 14 months when Charles Barkley hosted  (unfortunately petered out at he end like most SNL shows).

However, everything before the ill fated"Calugia" sketch was on point, including  the opener with the other  "Five Time" hosts, Jay-Z's appearance on "Suit and Tie", the return of Stefon on "Weekend Update" and the "Veganville" shake sketch, which much like Bruno Mars "Sirius XM" skit cannot be not seen on Hulu or NBC.com because  there were so many copyrighted songs in it, (so I got the bootleg video below).

1.) All "Veganville" Everything

WIll & Emma Channels a Ceiling Dancing Fred Astaire on Glee

The recent focus on Mr. Shcue (Matthew Morrison) and his runaway bride Emma (Jayma Mays) has been a mid-season find for "Glee as of late.

For a longtime Gleek like myself (dude did I just say that), the show was at its strongest the first two seasons, where  Ryan Murphy's hit not only focused on Rachel and Fin and the rest of the Lima, Ohio show choir, but it was also wrappred in adult themes of Mr. Shue's dealing disintegrating marriage with his wife terry and  his feelings from afar  for the school counselor Emma.

Over the years, the focus was geared more towards the kids, more music was crammed into the episodes  and guests stars became more commonplace. The show still was interesting, but the conflicted life of Will Schuester in season 1 was replaced by a glee club conductor who only gave pep talks by season 3.

Yesterday's black and white opener, where  Morrison and Mays reacted a classic scene from 1951 Fred Astaire 1951 movie musical Royal Wedding while singing "You're All the World to Me" was pitch perfect that I would actually wanted to see more of Will's black and white dream.

The chemistry between Morrison and Mayes has always been one of the show's best secret weapons and its good to see these two fine actors display this energy on screen once again,

While the new-found Will and Emma storyline might not last for the rest of the season, this small resurgence of the Glee adults has been a great nod on how interesting and gritty the show was when Rachel Berry got her  first slushee was thrown in her face.

New! The Hangover Part III (Trailer)

This time around, no wedding, no bachelor party, no playbook as the wolfpack hits the road.

Mad Men's Christina Hendricks Stops By Craig Ferguson

Sorry Mad Men fans, Christina Hendricks (who was promoting her new film "Ginger & Rosa") talked living next to a women's prison as well as playing the accordion, she even played the mouth organ but the bubbly red head did not mention any thing about Don Draper and company, (she couldn't say a word about the new season anyway) but long as Christina is on the screen, does it matter?

‘Mad Men’ Season 6 (Teaser Commercial)

Although I will be losing the Walking Dead on April 7, 2013, I will be regaining Roger Sterling and Don Draper as Mad Men will be returning on this day at 9pm.

While there will be no more"Walkers" slowly walking across my screen, I'll be gaining Christina Hendricks slowly walking across my screen...that's a good ole' fashion win in my book!
