Reaction: Paul McCartney Leads Nirvana Reunion During 12-12-12 Concert

When I first I heard that Sir Paul McCartney was leading a Nirvana reunion, during the 12-12-12 Sandy Relief concert,  I made that Scooby Doo sound that Will Smith perfected so well on "The Fresh Prince."

Word is that McCartney and Foo Fighter #1  Dave Grohl and former Nirvana bassit Kris Novoselic has been working on music and they will play some of those songs tonight at the concert but not classic Nrivana tracks.

Whew!

This is not  slight towards Sir Paul at all. He's still the greatest Beatle still alive (sorry Ringo) and deceased Nirvana frontman Kirk Cobain was heavily influenced by The Beatles, especially John Lennon.

So the musical fit between McCartney, Grohl and Noveselic is not out of the ordinary.

However, when I heard McCartney, reunion and Nirvana in the same sentence, all I could see is Sir Paul bobbing his head side to side while screaming "Hey! Wait!" through "Heart Shaped Box".

Not a good look.

I'm starting to understand why surviving members of Led Zeppelin won't  get back together.

Even though, Jimmy Page and Robert Plants has played together and John Paul Jones can still play a mean bass,  I now understood why they decided to never to play as Led Zeppelin again after drummer John Bonham died, (can you imagine the money they have turned down by not reuniting?)

A reunion is never a true reunion, unless all parties are involved are alive, healthy and they are close to to their powerful musical past.

A Led Zepplin  reunion, though tremendous, would never be same without Bonham manically pounding on  his drum kit.

If McCartney, Grohl and Noveselic slip into a Nirvana song like the Beatle-esque "About a Girl", it would be interesting to  hear and probably enjoyable to watch, but its not really a "Nirvana reunion".

It would be like if Sir Paul and Ringo were joined by  Noel and  Liam Gallahger of Oasis to replace  John Lennon and George Harrison for a "Beatles  reunion".

It would be interesting to hear and possibly enjoyable to watch (especially if Noel and Liam are fighting during 'Let it Be") .....but it wouldn't  really a "reunion" without John or George and nor is it tonight without Kurt and his painful, but melodic wail.

What do you think?

Yeah, a lot of people were jumping to conclusion about this performance. It was tastefully done. It was Macca jamming with two guys that happened to be the surviving members of Nirvana. New songs, no butchering of classics. Those guys can jam however they want.
