Farewell to An Poetic Icon: R.I.P Maya Angelou (New York Times)
Maya Angelou, whose landmark book of 1969, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” — which describes in lyrical, unsparing prose her childhood in the Jim Crow South — was among the first autobiographies by a 20th-century black woman to reach a wide general readership, died on Wednesday at her home in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was 86.
.
... In a statement, President Obama said, “Today, Michelle and I join millions around the world in remembering one of the brightest lights of our time — a brilliant writer, a fierce friend and a truly phenomenal woman,” adding, “She inspired my own mother to name my sister Maya.”

Beyonce Sister Solange Knowles Attacked Jay Z in Met Gala Elevator (Video)
(Via New York Daily News)
"...Jay Z and sister-in-law Solange Knowles had an altercation at a Met Gala after-party May 5 that was caught on tape, obtained by TMZ.com.
It all went down in an elevator where the 27-year-old sister of Beyonce can be seen clawing and kicking at her brother-in-law as the "Halo" singer looks on.
It's unclear what caused the argument as there is no sound on the black and white surveillance video, shot after the group attended a soiree at the Boom Boom Room at New York's Standard Hotel. "Solange flipped out over something Jay had said, that she took the wrong way," a source told Us Weekly."

Michael Sam Reacts to Being Drafted by The St Louis Rams (Video)
(Via New York Times)
"One player seemingly no N.F.L. team wanted Michael Sam, a consensus all-American at Missouri and The Associated Press’ defensive player of the year in the S.E.C., college football’s most competitive conference. Sam was also the first publicly gay player waiting to be drafted.
Finally, after nearly seven numbing hours of picks on Saturday, the third and final day of the draft, Mike Kensil, an N.F.L. employee walked to the podium and read Sam’s name.
Cheers erupted among the several hundred fans still left at Radio City Music Hall.
Sam’s draft status was seen as barometer of whether the N.F.L. was ready to accept an openly gay player, particularly since the N.B.A. had already broken that barrier earlier this year when Jason Collins joined the Brooklyn Nets.
Reaction was swift.
“Congrats to @MikeSamFootball on becoming a @STLouisRams,” Eric Dickerson, the former Rams running back wrote on Twitter. “Welcome to the #Rams family.” "

Classic! Pharrell Williams Tells The Stories About His Greatest Hits on Howard Stern
One of the biggest things that came out of Pharrell's interview with Oprah was that he cried and his thoughts on the "New Black."
However, if you are a real fan of Pharrell, his interview is classic as he gets into the origins of who really suppose to sing "Happy" and Britney Spears "Slave 4 U", his love for Robin Thicke and slight falling out with Justin Timberblake back in the day as well as Michael Jackson turning down the songs that became J.T.'s "Justified.
Great stuff!
