Gap Band's Charlie Wilson Debuts at # 2 on the Billboard Album Charts

The big news this week is that country ingénue Taylor Swift topped the Billboard album chart for a tenth week with her album "Fearless" But for me, the biggest news is that former Gap band front man Charlie Wilson's album "Uncle Charlie" which debuted at #2.

While the teenaged Swift has all of country music and mainstream outlets like VH1 behind her, "Fearless" sold 62,000, while Wilson whose only support comes from adult urban radio sold 53,000.

This is an amazing feat for the 56 year old Wilson, who recently conquered prostate cancer. At this stage of his musical career, you probably won't see on VH1’s Top 20Countdown or the youth infused 106 & Park on BET.

Nope, Wilson debuted at the #2 the old fashioned way, making good music.

His latest single "There Goes My Baby" is a sweeping R&B ballad that is classic enough thrill the old heads and current enough for young folks to give it a listen.

Though his funky Gap Band days are gone, Charlie Wilson's feat proved that you can be over 50 years old and still be musically relevant. Did you hear that “Real Hip Hop & RB stations”.

Shocker! Cleveland Browns Trade Kellen Winslow Jr (K2) to Tampa Bay!

What in the Michael Dean Perry is going on?

First defensive tackle Sean Roger requested a trade, now the Cleveland Browns traded tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks

Winslow Jr. aka K2 was not only the Cleveland Browns most talented player, but also one the team's most controversial.

From the very moment former Browns coach Butch Davis traded draft picks in the 2004 to move up one spot to select Winslow Jr. from "The U" (University of Miami), controversy followed K2.

Following tense negotiations between the Brown his former agents the Poston Brothers, Winslow Jr. broke his leg during his rookie season.

A year later, Winslow Jr.'s severely damaged his knee and shoulder, while attempting motorcycle tricks.

His injuries was so severe that some thought his career was over.

But Winslow's strong will and god given athletic ability, not only got him back on the field, but in 2007 he was named the NFL Pro Bowl.

That year proved that proved that on one good leg, Kellen Winslow Jr. was better than most receivers in the league

But by the dawn of the 2008 season, K2's career in Cleveland was coming to an end.

First, Winslow Jr. griped about a new contract.

The Browns then selected tight end Martin Rucker in fourth round of last year's NFL draft.

During the 2008 season, Winslow's injuries worsened, which not only curtailed his playing time, but Browns fans also learned Winslow contracted a staph infection.

A staph infection which led Winslow to say that he felt the Browns organization didn't care about their players (over the past few years, various Cleveland Browns suffered staph infections, although the team repeatedly that the problem was fixed, players continued to contract the bacterial infection) .

Now Kellen Winslow Jr.will be playing for the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Some would say that losing Winslow Jr.s was addition by subraction.

Maybe, maybe not.

But in losing Winslow Jr, the Cleveland Brown's not only lost their most passionate player, but also their pass catching receiver.

I guess it's safe to say that the Coach Eric Magani era has officially started.

Good luck Browns fans.

Nick Mitchell Performs "I'm Not Telling You" on American Idol

This might be the last time we will see this funny man, who actually has a soulful voice.

Nick Mitchell's Paul Lynde meets Jennifer Holiday version of "I'm not Telling You" (From Dream girls) was a hilarious highlight of what was a so-so American Idol.

Although it would've been nice to see Mitchell sing the song straight, the combination of his comedic flair and lack of great performances from last night's show wannabes might actually get him to the final 12 of season eight.

50 Cent Interviewd by Sage Steele On ESPN 1st & 10

The smell of Aftermath Records is in the air again. Eminem's "Crack A Bottle" is burning up the charts and Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent is out promoting his new video game, "Blood On The Sand".

"1st and 10" is an interesting place for Curtis to promote is video game, but any chance I get to look at ESPN's Sage Steele its always a good day.

Too bad she's married with three kids, but I can still look right?

President Obama, State of The Union, Green Jobs and Hirejam.com

Tonight at 8pm, President Barack Obama will deliever his non-State of The Union address, (since President Obama hasn't been in office for a year, The White House is not calling this State of The Union address, but the "State of the Economy address").

During his address, President Obama will discuss among other things, his new stimulus package, which will lead talk about the new Green economy.

I'm a Green guy, so much so that I created a job platform called hirejam.com, along with a blog, Facebook page, Twitter and few other web 2.0 tools so that people can interact and network.

I created it because it depresses me to watch people lose their jobs, homes and even families because of the economy.

To paraphrase, President Obama " its not about me, "but about you", so if I can help any of you out there to find a job in this new green economy, then my platform has served its purpose.

Peace

Introducing...Melanie Fiona

I don't have anything against of the cute caramel girl singers like Rihanna, Keri Hilson and Christina Milan that seem to have hijacked the R&;B music, since Aaliyah and Beyonce popped up in the 90's, but I'm all about strong vocalist.

Where are the new Gladys Knights, Whitney Houstons or Toni Braxtons? Brown skinned women, who are not part of caramel machine, but whose vocals do not need a machine to make them sound better?

I'm sure they are around, but the most record companies and managers aren't really checking for them.

In walks in Melanie Fiona. She may not sound like Gladys Knight or look like Ciara, but has something that Gladys Knight has and Ciara lacks...soul.
