This sentence and conviction is ridiculous! He should be heavily warned and given probation but to destroy a young mans entire life when he had the potential of contributing to society positively, and obtaining a good life and being more of an asset than burden; where now he may to struggle with a conviction that will hold him back from being a good citizen and achieving any form of success. It situations like this that destroy good people that may have made a poor choice at some point in their life, but not even be a serious threat or danger to our society. We all have made a bad choice here and there. I also think race may have played a role in this case. Had he shown a pattern of this behavior, during and/or following probation, then maybe a sentence to jail may have been appropriate....but wow! And look at all the folks who have done far worst things, yet they are serving very little or no time at all. Is this how we keep the population of successors dwn, with race being the factor? Hmmm, I wonder? The judge should be ashamed. She seemed pretty heartless and a bit disrespecful toward the family and their pain.
