NBC's "CEO" Jeff Zucker Talks About the Late Night Mess on Charlie Rose

Jay Leno might be the one taking the shots, but the true villian of the late night disaster with Leno and the Tonight Show's Conan O'Brien is Jeff Zucker President & CEO of NBC Universal.

Noted as being "the Dick Cheney of television" by the Daily Show's John Stewart, Zucker has been at wheel during NBC's ratings demise, yet over the years Zucker continued to get promoted.

To paraphraseDon King "Only in America" can you destroy a network and still be the CEO.

When 10 @ 10 Goes Wrong: Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Jay Leno On His Own Show!

I'm not sure what Jay Leno was thinking when he brought Jimmy Kimmel to do 10 at 10 on his show, especially after Kimmel recently impersonated Leno on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The clip is funny, but tough to watch as Kimmel expertly slices and dices Leno to late night shreds:

Leno: "What’s the best prank Kimmel ever pulled?"

Kimmel: “I told a guy that five years from now, I’m gonna give you my show. And then when the five years came, I gave it to him, and then I took it back almost instantly,”

Jay Leno Show to be Canceled???? Replacing Conan???

Update:  1/12: Conan OBrien Refuses To Follow Leno in Open Letter.

Update 1/8 : NBC Gives Conan The Choice Of 12:05 Or Walking: TMZ

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/08/nbc-gives-conan-the-choic_n_415994.html?&just_reloaded=1

Update 6:50PM : TMZ is reporting that Leno is moving back to his old time slot.

Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien. We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.

(Washingtion Post)

NBC is in discussions internally and with station executives about moving talk-show host Jay Leno back to late night. But late Thursday the network officially declined to comment on reports that Leno, who has been hosting a 10 p.m. comedy show stripped across weeknights, will be sent back to his more comfortable perch at 11:30 p.m.

A move back to late night would undoubtedly mean that Leno would stop doing his five-night-a-week primetime show that debuted in September. The timing of the move is unclear but it seems to be sooner rather than later.

TMZ reported that Leno's show would be put on hiatus starting Feb. 1, and that after the Olympics -- which end Feb. 28 -- Leno would return to late night. It is unclear what such a move would mean for Conan O'Brien, who took over "The Tonight Show" in June, while Leno prepared for his new primetime role.

Lopez Tonight Scores Big Ratings for TBS

(Turner Newsroom)

In its first week on TBS, the high-energy late-night series LOPEZ TONIGHT averaged more than 1.6 million viewers and outdelivered the competition among highly coveted young adults. The show has proven to be a big multicultural hit for the network, with Hispanic and African-American viewers making up a significant portion of the audience.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with how LOPEZ TONIGHT performed in its first week,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “The show not only changed the face of late night television but also infused the 11 o’clock hour with an exciting new energy that won viewers in a big way.”
