Finally Getting Their Due: The Frankie Beverly & Maze Tribute

Much like the Grateful Dead and now Wilco in the rock world, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly are one of the those groups that never won a major award or had a huge string of hits, but they can still so something that most of their R&B award contemporaries past 50 years old can't do...sell out crowds.

Never mind that is been nearly two decades since the band from Philly via Los Angeles dropped a new album, Frankie Beverly and Maze are one of those rare acts like Bruce Springsteen, like Neil Diamond, like The Rolling Stones who can hit the road at anytime and perform to pack crowds raging from 8 to 80.

To honor their legacy, Frankie Beverly son put together an all star cast of today's overlooked R&B stars like Ledisi, Mint Condition and Raheem Devaughn mixed with hitmakers like Mary J. Blige and Joe Thomas and created "Silky Soul Music…An All-Star Tribute to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly"

Althogh one can quibble why, Jamie Foxx is singing "Joy & Pain" over a missing Eric Roberson, this is solid disc of music that reminds that Frankie Beverly and Maze was more than a band, they made music that were the soundtrack of people's lives.
