Tulsa Shock's Skyler Diggins Signs with Jay-Z and RocNation Sports

(Via Hip Hop Wired)

The Notre Dame grad was welcomed into the fold via Jay-Z's site Life+Times. Sports fans might recall that Diggins was a superstar during her Fighting Irish days. The 22-year-old baller is still the scoring champ for women's basketball at Notre Dame. In the 2013 WNBA Draft, Skyler was scooped up by the Tulsa Shock. She was a power player before even turning 18, and now in her '20s she continues to be a force to be reckoned with.

(Via Cleveland Plain Dealer)
Quentin Groves, who was recently signed as a linebacker by the Cleveland Browns, was arrested on a charge of soliciting an undercover police officer for prostitution.

Orange police said on April 17 Groves responded to an advertisement placed by police offering prostitution services. A female officer from Beachwood posed as an escort and set up dates with men willing to pay for sex. "[Groves] made arrangements for certain acts ... and requested 'full service' and stated he would bring condoms," according to the police report.

Allen Iverson is Almost Broke and Drinking His Life Away

(Via Washingon Post)

"....Basketball was Iverson’s sanctuary, and he signed huge contracts: a six-year deal in 1999 worth $70.9 million and, four years later, a new agreement worth $76.7 million. Reebok signed him to a huge endorsement deal, including a deferred trust worth more than $30 million, a lump sum he can’t touch until he turns 55.

....He supported family members and rarely said no to a request for money. McLeod, who occasionally went to the bar with Iverson’s entourage, says his teammate always paid the tab, no matter how much. “He never turned down anybody,” Brown said. “He was there to help everybody. He didn’t think about the future.”

....For the past three years, as Iverson chased an NBA comeback, his marriage fell apart and much of his fortune – he earned more than $150 million in salary alone during his career – dissolved. Now, those who once ignored past signals have recognized that basketball may have been the only thing holding Iverson’s life together.
“He has hit rock bottom, and he just hasn’t accepted it yet,” says former Philadelphia teammate Roshown McLeod.

...Larry Brown, who coached Iverson in Philadelphia, has called often recently, extending invitations to Dallas. Brown now coaches there, at Southern Methodist University, and two of Iverson’s former Sixers teammates, Eric Snow and George Lynch, are on Brown’s staff. Brown thinks it would be good for Iverson to be around the game and people who still care about him, but Iverson hasn’t visited.
“I worry about him,” Brown said. “A lot.”

McKie and others have texted. Iverson responds sometimes, although days or weeks often pass. Other times, there’s no reply. He keeps to himself, something of a recluse, and declines most interview requests. Last year his eldest daughter, Tiaura, asked to live with her father, according to divorce testimony transcripts. She was concerned about how few people her dad interacts with.
“I just don’t like to see it end this way,” Brown said."

TV Anchor Fired for Saying F**K (When Keeping Real Goes Wrong)

Anchor AJ Clemente’s first day was his last as he went from the guy mistakenly saying “F—ing sh-t" and getting  suspended  Sunday to being fired from North Dakota’s NBC affiliate KFYR on Monday.

Look, its too bad that AJ lost his anchor gig and he will probably get another, but  that's what news directors get for hiring on ait talent based on looks instead of journalistic credibility.

Walter Cronkite didn't look like a male model and he wouldn't have NEVER done this on live TV.

Reese Witherspoon's Mugshot

Credit: Courtesy of City of Atlanta Department of Corrections

(Via US Weekly)

Reese Witherspoon,, 37, and her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, were arrested shortly after midnight on April 19 in Atlanta, Ga., where Witherspoon has been filming the indie movie The Good Lie.
... the Devil's Knot star and Toth were arrested and briefly jailed after an officer pulled them over under suspicion of driving under the influence.

Toth, 41, was reportedly given a sobriety test, during which time his wife became increasingly agitated. Per the arresting officer's account in the report, the actress disobeyed repeated instructions to stay in the vehicle and proceeded to argue on her husband's behalf.

"Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?'" Variety quotes the report as saying. "I answered, 'No, I don't need to know your name. I then added, 'Right now.' Mrs. Witherspoon stated, 'You're about to find out who I am.'"

As the NFL draft looms for the Cleveland Browns, their owner Jimmy Haslam as his own problems  as the Feds and the IRS are investigating Jimmy Haslam’s Pilot Flying J company on allegations of fraud.

Acording to the Plain Dealer " The 120-page affidavit, summed up a two-year investigation of Haslam’s truck stop and travel center company by the FBI and IRS. The documents, which were used to obtain search and seizure warrants served Monday at company headquarters, charge that Haslam knew company sales executives withheld millions of dollars of rebates owed trucking companies that purchased gas in large volumes from Pilot Flying J."

Um, that's not good.

Jay-Z Covers TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World Issue

(Via Time)

"  [Jay-Z's] an artist-entrepreneur who stands at the center of culture and commerce in 21st century America, and his influence stretches across races, religions and regions. He’s never forgotten his roots — “Empire State of Mind” was a love song to our city — and as a co-owner of the NBA Nets, he helped bring a major league sports team back to Brooklyn, not far from his old neighborhood. In nearly everything he’s tried, he’s found success. (He even put a ring on BeyoncĂ©.) And in doing so, he’s proved that the American Dream is alive and well.

I'm a big fan of Hov as well as a Hip Hop fan and this move is impressive." However, I don't if he's that influential.  Jay-Z's business mind is stellar and if his latest move becoming a sports agent works out, he will be by 2015..I just don't know, if is that influential in 2013. Am I wrong? Tell me.

The Central Park Five Documentary (Full PBS Video)

Watch The Central Park Five on PBS. See more from Central Park Five.
(Via NPR)

Ken Burns has said that no matter what subjects he tackles in his documentaries — baseball or jazz, Mark Twain or the Civil War — they always seem to boil down to two things: "race and place." That's certainly true with his latest film, The Central Park Five, which tells of the violent assault and rape of a female jogger in 1989.

The place was New York City — and because of citywide racial tensions at the time, the story was seized upon by New York tabloids and national TV newscasts alike. The victim was white — and the five teenagers accused of brutalizing her were black and Latino. It made for frenzied, heated news coverage — and, as the late Ed Koch, former mayor of New York, explains in the film, both race and place were key factors in the attention this case received.

The Central Park Five is written, produced and directed by Burns, his daughter Sarah Burns and David McMahon. McMahon served as a producer on other Burns documentaries — Baseball, The War and The National Parks — but this is the first film credit for Sarah Burns. She did, however, write the 2011 nonfiction book on which this film is based, so she's more than earned her way into the family business.

...Four of the five exonerated teens appear and are interviewed on camera. The fifth, Antron McCray, chose to participate only in voiceover. New York City prosecutors and police chose not to appear, or participate, at all. However, the city did try to demand, unsuccessfully, that the filmmakers release outtakes of their interviews, as possible evidence in the ongoing civil trial brought by the former defendants.  Read more

Glee's Naya Rivera Strips Down for Allure Magazine

(Via LA Times)

"Naya Rivera, Jennifer Morrison, Clare Bowen and Christa Miller are taking it all off for Allure's annual nudes issue.

The TV stars were photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, strategically covering their breasts and nether regions in the name of art and passion. Last year, Maria Menounos, Debra Messing, Leslie Bibb, Taraji B. Henson and Morena Baccarin posed for Demarchelier.

...For "Glee's" Rivera, 26, this is just an extension of her sex symbol status.
"I actually was not nervous about posing nude today. I was excited more than anything else actually," she said. Rivera has become a sex symbol to the lesbian community and says that she gets more girls than her boyfriend, rapper Big Sean. "They always tweet me about my booty.""

Vince Vaughn Channels 70's Bill Murray During SNL Stellar Opening Monologue

From Swingers to Old School to Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn wiht his cool demeanor amd comedic arsenal of wit has always came across a true student of the Bill Maurray school of comedy.

During his opening monologue, Vaughn seemingly mined the Sauturday Night Live library to give his version of Murray's lounge singer guy from the 70's.

Going from person to person in the audience like schmoozing at a Vegas lounge act, Vince Vaughn gave his best performance of the night, which probably because the words were mostly his and not the SNL writers.

Kobe Bryant Vows To Fight Bear and Come Back From Achilles Rupture on Facebook

Since the Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors game wasn't on TV last night, I was following the game on Twitter. Each time someone tweeted Kobe's injured!

Another tweet would say Kobe scored! Then in one instant, tweets said Kobe was down.

I quickly turned onto NBTV and watched a limping Kobe Bryant hit two free throws, then limped to the locker room.

The speculation was that he tore his achilles.

After the Lakers win, you can see the pain and hurt in his eyes as a near tearful Black Mamba talked to the media and his season ending injury, which could end up being a career ender as well (thanks for picking Mike D'antoni over Phil Jackson, Jimmy Buss. Maybe the heavy minutes didn't contribute to his injury, Jackson would have at least put Bryant in a better position to win, if this was to be his last season).

Today took Kobe Bryant to his Facebook page to rant about being hurt.

After first Bryant came across as being bitter and  depressed by the injury:

"This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!?...Maybe Father Time has defeated me."

But by the end of the post vowed to fight to the finish:

"...One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day. If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive always loved that quote. Thats "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer."

Although, Kobe Bryant was late to social media athlete game, he's probably the best at it by opening himself up in a way that most players would never; with each Tweet, Twitpic, and Facebook post, you get the all sides of Kobe Bryant: Funny, driven ball player, doting father.

Kobe "Bean" Bryant  with one click, consistently show that athletes are human just like everyone, yet has still been able to keep a shroud of mystery of what makes him great as a player.

While his injury will push to to depths he never experience during his 17 seasons in the NBA, it will be fascinating to watch his drive back to the hard wood on social media, one tweet at a time.

Get well Mama!

Major Lazer, Dirty Projectors and The Roots Performs "Get Free" on Jimmy Fallon

Kelly Clarkson Performms "People Like Us" Gushes Over Mariah Carey on Idol

[HD] Kelly Clarkson - People Like Us - American... by IdolxMuzic

Right before Kelly Clarkson performed "People Like Us" on American Idol, I thought the most interesting of the night would be Ryan Seacrest mentioning his former sidekick Brian Dunkleman as Idol showed a an old clip of Clarkson's first audition with Seacrest and the parts unknown co-host (c'mon Seacrest, you can't break Dunkleman off with a little side gig on one those Kardashian shows? Have a heart man).

However, the most intrigiung thing was one Clarkson started fawning over Mariah Carey.

It wasn't pathetic at all, in fact it was pretty sweet.

Since Kelly Clarkson has been so successful since her Idol win over 10 years ago, you would think that she would see Carey as an equal. But in fact, as she ended her performance and started talking to Seacrest, she quickly morphed into the the young 20-something Season one  girl form Texas, who grew up listening to Carey's music as she looked over towards Mrs. Cannon.

The interesting thing about Mariah is that even though she is a diva in every sense of the word, she's actually a  very nice diva, who was very warm and loving to to Clarkson, (not sure how Jennifer Lopez would've handled that situation).

This is why when Nicki Minaj was beefing with Mariah was crazy.

I didn't expect Minaj to react to Carey like Clarkson, but at least respect for the legedary career Mariah  has already achieved....one that Team Minaj is still trying to obtain.

Johnathan Winters Was More Than a Comedian

Jonathan Winters passed away today at 89.

Most of the articles today in print and online will focus on Winters tremendous improv skills as a comedian, but the last role in saw the talented Mr. Winters in  was a dramatic one.

Over Christmas, I saw a great 1969 episode of the Twilight Zone with him and Jack Klugman and Winters  called "Game of Pool." was in serious drama mode.

I won't spoil the episode for you, but it was quite gripping as both Klugman and Winters worked only with themselves and a pool table. While Winters is mostly known as a comedian that Twilight Zone episode showed no hint of  the thousands of characters than came out of his egg shaped body.

On that episode, Jonathan  Winters was just as fascinating as a dramatic one as he was a comedic one, when I was kid watching him ham it up as Robin William's  son on "Mork & Mindy".

I never understand why the Oscars has been so stingy in giving out Oscars to comedians.

Most dramatic actors will tell you going from drama to comedy is one of the hardest things to do. However, ever since Charlie Chaplin, comedians, the goods ones, always had that ability to show a dramatic side.

Over the years,  non-Oscar winners Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Richard Pryor and Jim Carrey and others has shown that they can give a performance best dramatic actors, yet can still tell a joke that would keep you laughing for days.

Jonathan Winters had that type of  talent and though he is gone now, his legacy lives on in every comedian who can make you laugh with a twist of face or simple wink with a smile.

RIP funny man.

Bruno Mars' Sisters Get Their Own WEtv Reality Series

Sure they're attractive, but this reality world is so crazy.

A few years ago, Bruno would have had his own show becuase he was successful in music and he was really funny on SNL, but thanks to the Basketball Wives/Kardashian era, you don't have to have any success, as long as we are somehow connected to a person with a name.

If that's the case, I might as well change my last name to Lee, Scorsese or Spielberg.

Here's the CBS News report on sisters of Bruno show:

"The 27-year-old Grammy winner's four sisters will appear in a reality series documenting the recording process of their debut album, WEtv announced Wednesday.

The show will air this fall, the network said. It will include eight hour-long episodes.

Tiara, Tahiti and Presley Hernandez are moving from Hawaii to Los Angeles to join their older sister Jamie. The sisters perform as The Lylas."

Dancing With The Stars Kellie Pickler Likes Craig Ferguson's Snake

Alec Baldwin Becoming New "Last Call" Host Might Be a Bad Move

Carson Daly seems surprised, so are we!

Looks like Alec Baldwin is in talks with NBC to take over Carson Daly's Last Call gig.

In defense of Alec Baldwin for "Last Call" host, his "Here's The Thing" podcast really good podcast online...I mean really good (his interview with David Letterman, was one of the most insightful glimpses in the late night hosts life, since Howard Stern interviewed him a year ago) and while Carson Daly does not even come close to having the charisma of the former "30 Rock" star,  Carson Day's "Last Call" is still one of best shows underrated programs on TV.

But it wasn't always that way.

The early version of the show was horrible as Daly followed the whole late night blueprint created by Steve Allen and perfected by Johnny Carson. The only difference was Daly looked stiff behind the desk, he told lame jokes and show's writing was  horrible.

At that point, I wouldn't have blamed NBC if they replaced him as host with Paula Deen ya'll!

But a thing funny happened before the axe fell, Carson totally revamped the show.

"The Voice" host got rid of the studio  and  pre-shot "Last Call" on the road, where he interviewed guests in interesting places around and outside of Los Angeles.

He used 5D and 7D Cannon cameras to give the show a richer cinematic texture (plus those Cannons are cheaper than studio cameras) and his directors and producers employed interesting camera angles, coloring and effects to give the show a visual hipness that most late night shows lacked.

More importantly, he and his crew interviewed interesting actors, rappers and musicians that sometimes didn't get much airtime as well as introducing new artists, filmmakers and bands that you would never been seen on the other shows because they were not "ratings worthy", which is simply a better word for unknown. (In fact, quite a few of my posts here has either been me talking about these "unknowns" I saw on Last Call).

The revived "Last Call with Carson Daly" in essence played to Carson Daly's previous MTV/TRL strengths of focusing on the talent and not himself, (the only difference being that the interviews had more grit ,and there were not a bunch of kids screaming).

If Alec Baldwin does takes over the "Last Call" gig, he will no doubt follow the one on one model of the original "Last Call" host Bob Costas". Which was great back in the day, but I wish NBC would at least attention to the new model that Daly cultivated because whatever young demographic that is watching "Last Call" now, will probably go away if Baldwin is named new host.

In actuality, Alec Baldwin's own coolness and quick wit is probably be a better fit age-wise for the "Tonight Show", but NBC already jacked that gig from Jay Leno and gave it to Jimmy Fallon.

Since the Tonight Show is out of the question, I would rather see Alec Baldwin takeover Fallon's "Late Night" spot, but it seems like Seth Meyers might takeover the spot, (I don't agree with Donald Trump much, but I don't think Meyers is all that funny. Doing "Weekend Updates" on SNL is one thing, but a whole show with Seth? Ehhh...)

Another piece of this puzzle is that once again there are no minorities even considered for any of these late night gigs. If Chis Rock can find W. Kamau Bell in San Francisco to host a show on FX, I'm sure there are quite a few brothas across the country could host one of these shows.

(However, this leads to a whole discussion about the lack of opportunities in front of , behind the camera as well as who's calling the shots at the top and that's another discussion for another day).

As this late night merry go round goes goes round and round, the one person who probably is enjoying all of this is David Letterman.

He's still number two behind Jay Leno, yet CBS CEO Les Moonves said Letterman can basically can leave whenever he wants.

Now that's a late night gig most these guys on NBC should really be fighting for.

Scary Movie 5's Lindsay Lohan StopS By David Letterman

The biggest thing here wasn't that Lohan was quite engaging and was playfully shocked that David Letterman was asking her about her issues and future rehab stint.

 Nope, it was her face.

Not yet thirty years old, the once a fresh faced freckled beauty, now looks like a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills (and that's not a good thing).

At certain times she still looks and acts like the girl from "Mean Girls", who was on the verge of taking the movie industry by storm and then other moments she reminds of the interviews of Judy Garland in her later years, when life went terribly wrong. (There should really be a law where plastic surgeons should be thrown in jail for during unnecessary surgeries.

In contrast, Fashion Star's Nicole Richie (below) was on Jimmy Kimmel the same night.

Whatever issues she had last decade, there is no affects of here troubled past today.

Even if Lindsay Lohan can get here life together on the inside, the outside will always be a painful reminder of what could have been.

Rick Springfield and Jack Wagner Perform on General Hospital's Nurses Ball

It was all 80's all the time, as General Hospital's revived Nurses Ball, brought back fellow GH vets/simgers Rick Springfield (Noah Drake)  and Jack Wagner (Frisco Jones) to perform.

It's crazy that its been 25-30 years ago when these songs were released!

However, the great thing is that both Springfield's "Jessie Girl" and Wagner's "All I Need" has stood the test of time.

Rick Pitino Ducks for Cover After Fireworks Go Off in Louisville NCAA Championship Win (GIF)

When he was coaching at Providence, my parents use to say that by the he looked at dressed, Rick Pitino looked like Michael Corleone from the Godfather movies. Judging by the way he ducked after fireworks went off at the end men's basketball finale, the Lousiville coach was clearly channeling Al Pacino in Godfather III!

There Was a Second Video for TLC’s “Creep”?!?

Who knew the CrazySexyCool member of TLC: Left Eye, T-Boz and Chilli made two video versions of their classic song "Creep" with director Lionel C. Martin, where the second version definitely had definite west coast, Snoop and Dr. Dre feel to it (Ahh, I so miss the 90's so....)

As cool as this rare second video is, the original might actually be better because you have no idea what year in the 90's the video was made, while the second version definitely reminds of the Death Row era of the mid 90's.
