Favorite 2012 Video: SebastiAn's "Embody"

We're just about a quarter into 2012 and I think I came across my second favorite.

My favorite video so far this year is Neon Hitch's Love You Betta, only because she's hot and she somehow shee made  stripping and tar sexy....but for sheer entertainment, SebastiAn's "Embody" is not only a great visual piece of filmmaking but it also has a thumping, groovilicious beat to go along with it.

Dude did I just say groovilicious?

Anyway, I came across the video on MTV's early morning AMTV show clubland.

For a channel that has virtually turned its back on videos during the day, MTV's early morning video blocks of AMTV and AMTV2 are must see TV where you can see everything from Rick Ross to Avicii.

For person like myself who enjoys club/house/dance music, but doesn't exactly know where to find it, AMTV's Clubland is a good place to start.

Now I'm sure club purists like my buddy DJ Stout XTC, would say that AMTV does not scratch the surface of the many  great club and house music artists out there today, but for me,  AMTV: Clubland is a good primer to investigate more artists, (check out DJ Stout XTC's House Music Radio show Beat Matrix here at WRUW FM).

The one thing I like about club/ dance music videos is that they don't care what the video premise is, they just like experimenting with the art form and pushing its limits of creativity.

Part of the reason is that they have limited budgets to shoot a video, but in many ways this actually helps because club artists don't have to satisfy the music execs to makes something that's appeals to the masses.

So if Swedish House Mafia has a pack a dogs "Save The World" cool and if SebatiAn just has a kid dancing all over the place in the video for "Embody" that's even cooler.

Sure, on paper, a dancing kid doesn't sound like much, but when you add the visuals and the music, you want to watch "Embody" over and over.

This what the music video use to mean back in the day.

Thank goodness I can still DVR elements of  MTV's yesteryear greatness for a few hours right before I watch the Today Show every morning.

What The?? "Dem Rep. Bobby Rush Escorted From House Floor For Wearing Hoodie in Honor of Trayvon Martin"

(Via CBS)

"Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush, of Illinois, was escorted off of the House floor on Wednesday after donning a hoodie and sunglasses in honor of slain teenager Trayvon Martin.
Rush, who began his remarks in a suit jacket and glasses, lamented the tragic death of 17-year-old Martin, who was killed last month by George Zimmerman, a volunteer member of a Sanford, Florida, neighborhood watch. Zimmerman, who has not been charged, claims he was defending himself.

Martin was unarmed and wearing a hoodie at the time of his death.
"Too often, this violent act that resulted in the murder of Trayvon Martin is repeated in the streets of our nation," Rush said in his statement. "I applaud the young people all across the land who are making a statement about hoodies, about the hoodlums in this nation, particularly those who tread on our laws wearing official or quasi-official clothes."

At this point in his remarks, Rush took off his jacket to reveal that he was wearing a hoodie underneath it. He covered his head with the hood, violating a rule in Congress that prohibits wearing hats on the House floor.

"Racial profiling has to stop, Mr. Speaker. Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum," Rush added, swapping his spectacles for a pair of sunglasses.

At this point, Rep. Gregg Harper, a Republican congressman from Mississippi who was serving as the presiding speaker of the chamber, called Rush out of order. Rush continued reading a passage from the Bible before being escorted out of the chamber."

Coach Frank Martin Leaving Kansas State For South Carolina

(Via Kansascity.com)

" A source close to Kansas State basketball coach Frank Martin said Monday morning that Martin will become South Carolina’s next coach.
The source confirmed a report in The State, a newspaper in Columbia, S.C., that said Martin will be introduced as the Gamecocks’ coach on Tuesday. The State also reported that a trustees meeting had been called to discuss “a contractual matter.”

Earlier Monday, Martin’s agent, Richard Katz, said “we have had conversations” with South Carolina, but would not say a deal was done.

Martin spent the weekend in New York serving as a CBS analyst for the NCAA Tournament. Speculation heated up on Friday that South Carolina was making a push for Martin, but Martin sent a text to The Star and other reporters saying he had not spoken with anyone about other openings.
Martin just finished his fifth season at K-State and has led the Wildcats to three straight NCAA Tournaments.

Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryants Talks About Being Benched by Coach Mike Brown

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:7737380

(Via Slam)
"When a reporter asked if it was correct to assume he was upset over the benching, Bryant said “of course I was. That’s an astute observation.” But Bryant refused to criticize Brown. “It’s his decision to make. He’s the coach. If you guys are looking for a story, I’m not going to contribute to it,” Bryant said. “I can’t sit here and criticize his decisions. Leading this ball club, that’s not something I can afford to do. I had his back the whole season. I can’t start doing something crazy now. It would make no sense.”

Meanwhile, Brown said three variances of “I just decided to make a sub” and offered little explanation on why he benched Bryant in favor of Metta World Peace. “There was not one particular thing,” Brown said. “I just made the sub, went with Metta, sat [Bryant] for a couple of minutes and tried to go back to him. But it didn’t work.”

Questlove Calls Out At Geraldo Rivera For Trayvon Martin Hoodie Remark

Geraldo on Fox and Friends

(Via MTV News)

"If you follow Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera's logic, a gun didn't kill Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, a hoodie did. The outspoken Rivera raised lots of eyebrows--and drew fire from Roots drummer ?uestlove--after Friday morning's "Fox & Friends" broadcast when he suggested that the unarmed 17-year-old victim Martin may have been as much to blame as uncharged gunman George Zimmerman. Why?
"I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was," said Rivera, who went on to add that he believes "overzealous" Zimmerman should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law and prosecuted if he is found criminally liable.
But, Rivera said, Martin's hoodie was, in his mind, part of "an outfit that allowed someone to respond in this irrational, overzealous way."

....Quest wasn't buying it, later tweeting, "@GeraldoRivera no quite the opposite. This was a case of racial profiling. Drill into kids heads not to racially profile … Sorry @GeraldoRivera, what I gotta stroll around rocking a tux 24 7 so I can put others who are ignorant at ease? What about the OTHER side."

President Obama: 'If I Had A Son, He'd Look Like Trayvon'

(Via Huffington Post)

"Obviously, this is a tragedy," he said. "I can only imagine what these parents are going through, and when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids, and I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this, and that everybody pulls together -- federal, state and local -- to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened."
He went on.
"I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen," said Obama. "And that means we examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident."
