Eddie Murphy: One Night Only All-Star Tribute Premiere's Tonight on Spike TV @ 10PM

Tonight on Spike TV, Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, Russell Brand, Samuel L. Jackson, Adam Sandler nd a cast of thousands salutes one of Hollywood's most underrated performers of all time Eddie Murphy.

If you put your thoughts of late clunkers like "Meet Dave" and Pluto  aside and think more in the terms of  "48 Hours" Beverley Hills Cop", "Boomerang" and "Shrek" , Eddie Murphy is one of the top box office draws of all-time ($3,810,422,028 billion and counting) for the past 30 years.

Yet for all his success, Eddie Murphy still doesn't get enough credit for his legendary film status.

Even before Def Comedy Jam debuted in the early 90's, Eddie Murphy was his own Def Comedy Jam by giving the likes of Lawrence, Jackson, Rock, Dave Chappelle, almost  the whole Wayans clan and many, mostly African-American  actors/comedians their first big Hollywood break on film, when no one else would cast them.

But as a trail blazing comedic movie star Eddie Murphy was for most of his career, his understated dramatic skills were just as effective.

His work alone from "Coming To America" to "The Nutty Professor" to "Dream Girls" are testaments to Murphy's awards worthy cinematic genius.

Yet, much like most talented mulch-layered comedic actors like Steve Martin and Jim Carrey, the Oscars has yet to honor Murphy for his acting talents, (why isn't there at least an Oscar for "Best Comedian" or "Best Comedic" movie anyway?)

Long overdue,  maybe tonight's Spike TV tribute to Eddie Murphy will be the first of many to honor the 30 year veteran actor formerly known as "Gumby Dammit!"

So what's your favorite Eddie Murphy movie?
